Whatever situation you find yourself in, look out for and focus on the opportunities

Psychology for my students #29

Whatever situation you find yourself in, look out for and focus on the opportunities. -The twice-daily changes brought by exceptional tides never fail to delight and surprise!

When were you last caught totally unawares? Either utterly delighted or shocked to the core? -it can be hard to find the right, in-the-moment response.

Some of us leap into immediate action, seizing the opportunity, feeling sure it'll be fun and there'll be a way through. But perhaps without enough forethought  -and maybe not such a happy ending.

Others prefer to retreat to safety, bolting the door while they think things through, not putting a foot wrong -but perhaps losing the joy offered by the moment.

Some of us survive (psychologically) by ploughing on regardless, others by extreme caution. It can be hard to judge exactly how -or how far- to go with the flow.

What is your typical response to the unexpected? Are you happy with it? -It could be interesting to experiment with a different response sometimes - seeing whether it helps you enjoy more, miss less -and avoid mistakes?!
